Sourcer cost in 2026: US, UK and UAE vs an AI recruiter
A US sourcer costs about $86,500–$108,500 a year with employer costs. The same math for the UK and UAE, and what an AI recruiter costs per interview.

Key takeaways
- A sourcer in a US agency costs about $86,500–$108,500 a year once employer costs are added to the median salary.
- In the UK and the UAE a junior researcher can cost less than an AI recruiter package. There, the case for AI is speed and capacity, not salary.
- In our data, every 100 candidates contacted gave about 12 scored interviews, a median 31 hours after the first message: enough for 1–2 roles.
- A recruiter closes about 2–3 hires a month in Ashby's benchmark; one Boutique package covers interviews for about 8–15 roles a month.
- An AI recruiter takes the repetitive part of the funnel. Market mapping and the hiring decision stay with people.
A full-time sourcer costs a US agency about $86,500–$108,500 a year once employer costs are added. In the UK, a researcher on £30,000 costs the agency about £34,500. In the UAE, a talent acquisition specialist earns AED 16,000–21,000 a month before gratuity, visa and insurance. The sources and the arithmetic are in the tables below. An AI recruiter is priced per interview minute: one scored first interview costs $73–$109, depending on the package (HunterFlow data, our pricing).
The two numbers buy different work. A sourcer maps a market, keeps relationships with people they placed before and makes judgment calls on unusual profiles. An AI recruiter takes the repetitive part: finding profiles, writing a first message to each person, answering their questions, asking screening questions and running a first interview. This post puts both on one page so you can decide where each belongs in your agency.
What a sourcer costs in 2026
Salary is only part of the cost. Employers also pay taxes, pensions, insurance and, in the UAE, end-of-service gratuity. The monthly figures in the last column are calculated from the sources in each row.
| Market and role | Salary | Employer costs on top | Monthly cost to the agency |
|---|---|---|---|
| US, HR specialists in employment services | $60,550 a year, median (BLS) | wages are 70% of total compensation in private industry (BLS, June 2026) | about $7,200 |
| US, HR specialists, all industries | $75,940 a year, median (BLS) | same (BLS, June 2026) | about $9,000 |
| UK, executive search researcher | about £30,000 a year (Glassdoor UK) | employer National Insurance 15% above £5,000 (GOV.UK) and a 3% pension (GOV.UK) | about £2,870 |
| UK, in-house talent advisor, London | £45,000 a year, typical (Hays 2026) | same (GOV.UK) | about £4,350 |
| UAE, talent acquisition specialist | AED 16,500 a month, average (Hays GCC 2025); AED 16,000–21,000 (Cooper Fitch 2025) | gratuity of 21 days' basic pay a year (u.ae), health insurance paid by the employer in Dubai (Law 11 of 2013), a work permit of AED 250–3,450 (u.ae) | AED 16,500–21,000, plus gratuity of up to about AED 1,200, plus insurance and visa |
How we got the last column. For the US, salary divided by 0.70 and by 12 months. For the UK, salary plus 15% on pay above £5,000, plus 3% on pay between £6,240 and £50,270, divided by 12. Small UK employers can cancel most of the National Insurance with the £10,500 Employment Allowance (GOV.UK). For the UAE, gratuity of 21 days a year is 5.75% of basic pay, and we applied it to the whole package as an upper bound. AED 16,500–21,000 is about $4,490–$5,720 at the fixed rate of 3.6725 dirhams to the dollar (The National).
Sourcers at tech companies earn far more: Levels.fyi puts the median total pay at $135,000 (Levels.fyi). Agency sourcers sit closer to the BLS figures, so we use those.
A sourcer also needs a search tool and time
Public prices for a seat:
- LinkedIn Recruiter is £8,925 per seat a year on LinkedIn's published UK public-sector price list (G-Cloud pricing document). Private-sector prices come from LinkedIn sales.
- Juicebox costs $99–$199 per seat a month (pricing), Pin $99–$135 (pricing), SeekOut $149–$179 (pricing) and hireEZ starts at $494 a month (pricing).
Then there is time that never shows up in a salary. In a GoodTime survey of 504 US talent leaders, recruiters said they spend 38% of their time scheduling interviews (GoodTime). GoodTime sells scheduling software, so read that as an upper bound.
One outbound hire takes about 50 interested candidates
Outbound sourcing takes volume. The published benchmarks show how much:
- The median time to fill a nonexecutive role in the US is 39 days (SHRM 2026), and 45 days for executive roles (SHRM 2025).
- Of sourced candidates who enter a pipeline, 2.0% are hired, and a sourced hire takes 33 interviews (Gem).
- Sourcing email sequences get a 19.6% reply rate on average (Ashby).
So one hire from outbound sourcing needs about 50 interested candidates in the pipeline, and several times more first messages, because most people never reply (from the Gem figure). Gem and Ashby sell recruiting software and their customers lean towards tech, so treat these as orders of magnitude.
With an AI recruiter, 100 candidates contacted give about 12 scored interviews
Here is what happens to every 100 candidates contacted from the recruiter's own LinkedIn profile. Data from an executive search agency using HunterFlow.
| Step | Out of 100 candidates contacted |
|---|---|
| Replied | about 67 |
| Invited to the AI interview | about 41 |
| Completed a scored interview | about 12 |
The median interview came 31 hours after the first message, and a typical interview lasted about 22 minutes (HunterFlow data). At 5–10 interviews per role, the assumption behind our pricing, every 100 candidates contacted give enough interviews for 1–2 roles.
Each message in that funnel is written for the person reading it. When someone replies, the AI answers their questions and asks up to three screening questions written for their profile, then sends a link to a voice interview scored against the agency's own questions. Candidates take it when it suits them, so nobody books a time. The recruiter gets a Profile fit, a Screening fit and an Interview fit score with the recording and the transcript, and decides who goes to the client.
What one interview costs at each package (our pricing):
| Package | Price a month, per recruiter | Per interview minute | One 22-minute interview | Interviews for one role (5–10 of 20 minutes) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Start | $1,490 for 300 minutes | $4.97 | about $109 | about $500–$990 |
| Team | $4,490 for 1,000 minutes | $4.49 | about $99 | about $450–$900 |
| Boutique | $5,390 for 1,500 minutes | $3.59 | about $79 | about $360–$720 |
| Agency | $9,990 for 3,000 minutes | $3.33 | about $73 | about $330–$670 |
Messages and screening before the interview don't use minutes; each package includes a monthly number of new candidates contacted (our pricing).
How many roles one person and one AI recruiter cover in a month
There is no published benchmark for how many roles an agency sourcer fills. The closest is Ashby's count of 7.3 hires per recruiter per quarter, about 2–3 a month (Ashby). That is a full-cycle in-house recruiter at mostly tech companies, so treat it as an order of magnitude.
An AI recruiter is limited by interview minutes. At 5–10 interviews of about 20 minutes per role, one package per recruiter covers (our pricing):
| Package | Roles a month |
|---|---|
| Start | about 2–3 |
| Team | about 5–10 |
| Boutique | about 8–15 |
| Agency | about 15–30 |
Side by side, for one month in the US:
| Recruiter or sourcer in the US | AI recruiter, Boutique package | |
|---|---|---|
| Monthly cost | about $7,200–$9,000, plus a search tool (BLS) | $5,390 per recruiter (our pricing) |
| Roles a month | about 2–3 hires (Ashby) | interviews for about 8–15 roles (our pricing) |
| Cost per role | about $3,000–$3,700 ($7,200–$9,000 ÷ 2.4 hires) | about $360–$720 ($5,390 ÷ 8–15 roles) |
| Works on | market maps and judgment calls | search, first messages, replies, screening and first interviews |
Where a human sourcer is still the better buy
For retained executive search, a researcher who builds a market map, knows who moved where last year and can make a confidential call is hard to replace. The same goes for a sourcer who keeps relationships with candidates the agency placed before, and for roles so unusual that the right profile doesn't look like the job title.
An agency can also keep its researcher and hand the repetitive work to the AI: finding profiles, first messages, answering questions and first interviews. One researcher then covers more roles with the same hours.
How to run the numbers for your agency
- Take your sourcer's salary and add employer costs: divide by 0.70 in the US (BLS); add 15% National Insurance above £5,000 and a 3% pension in the UK (GOV.UK); add gratuity, visa and health insurance in the UAE.
- Add the search tool your sourcer uses.
- Count the roles you work on in a month and how many first interviews you want per role before a shortlist.
- Multiply interviews by about 20–22 minutes and price them at your package's per-minute price (our pricing). Every 100 candidates contacted give about 12 interviews (HunterFlow data).
- Compare the two, then look at time: how many days your roles take today to reach a first interview.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a sourcer cost in 2026?
In the US, about $86,500–$108,500 a year once employer costs are added to the BLS median salary. In the UK, an agency researcher on £30,000 costs about £34,500 with National Insurance and pension. In the UAE, a talent acquisition specialist earns AED 16,000–21,000 a month, plus gratuity, visa and health insurance.
Is an AI recruiter cheaper than a sourcer?
Per role, yes: interviews for one role cost about $360–$720 at Boutique prices, against about $3,000–$3,700 of a US recruiter's monthly cost per hire. Per month, a Boutique package ($5,390 per recruiter) costs less than a US sourcer ($7,200–$9,000), and a junior researcher in the UK or the UAE can cost less than the package.
Will an AI recruiter replace our researcher?
It takes over the repetitive work: finding profiles, writing first messages, answering questions and running first interviews. Your researcher keeps market mapping, relationships and judgment, and can cover more roles.
What does one AI interview cost with HunterFlow?
In our data an interview lasts about 22 minutes. At package prices that is $73–$109 per interview, depending on the package. See the pricing page for current rates.
How many roles can one AI recruiter cover in a month?
It depends on minutes. With 5–10 interviews of about 20 minutes per role, Start covers about 2–3 roles a month, Team 5–10, Boutique 8–15 and Agency 15–30, per recruiter.
Do candidates have to book a time for the AI interview?
No. They get a link and take the interview when it suits them, so nobody aligns calendars.
